PGAS Solution South Sumatra region
conducting Pipeline Patrol as a series of PGN pipeline patrols specifically
done around pipes through inspections within ROW (Right of Way). This routine
and scheduled pipeline patrol is conducted to maintain pipeline safety and
reliability as PGN vital asset. It is called a vital asset because 70% gas that
PGN sold goes through this pipeline.
Carrying out pipeline patrols in
the ROW some planning and preparation are done such as, setting the goal plan
and equipments necessary. For example, a patrol is done KP 127+800, KP123+000
etc, this line determines the vehicle route and the type of equipments to
bring, and gathering information en route. Information includes and not limited
only on “hot gossip” on route such as community issues, any wild animals, etc.
Once information is gathered, then the necessary actions will be taken in
addition to regular deforestation, anoda measuring, and coordinate checks.
Patrol routes are generally
difficult to access. Some might have to go through a small river, some might be
through rice fields that are prone to getting stuck as well as going through
rocks which makes excellent driving skills necessary for the safety of natural
gas distribution in South Sumatra West Java (SSWJ) pipeline.
Activities carried out by
personnel during patrol includes: Socializing with the locals en route is
crucial because by doing this, we will receive information on activities around
the pipeline such as road widening plans, land dispute conditions, planting
plans, even including forest fires etc.

Shrubs and tree clearings clearing is crucial
because the more shrubs especially those with single and deep roots might
indirectly disturb pipe conditions in the ground. In dry seasons there is
potential for wildfires to spread. Other than those factors, to support the
next patrol, tall bushes might interfere officers in monitoring the pipeline.
